News from Consumer Citizenship Network
The CCN Final Report has been accepted by the European Commission and the final payment of the grant approved.
From the Evaluation:
”Without doubt, the network has proven to be an excellent forum for the development of ideas on Consumer Citizenship Education (CCE). There have been many exchanges of ideas in informal, free flowing exchanges and in the Task groups, Steering Committee, Conferences and Training events. This dynamism and enthusiasm have encouraged research and development, provided channels for publications, enhanced the status of CCE as an academic discipline, achieved recognition from many official European and National bodies. Examples have been submitted of publications, conference agendas, etc. which all demonstrate the above…The workplan has been followed and the Final Report shows that more has been done than originally planned. This includes more translations, more teaching material, wider dissemination, unexpected collaboration from international organizations and invitations to present the material in international fora…”

CCN partners questionnaire
We kindly ask all the CCN partners to answer the questionnaire as soon as possible. Aim of the questionnaire is to collect information about existing courses/modules dealing with CCE topics (possibly using the CCN Teaching Guidelines) which are taught by CCN members. The questionnaire is very simple and requires not more than 15 minutes to answer.

Dear colleagues and friends,
We have the great privilege to invite you to attend the 11th Annual Conference of the Finland Futures Research Centre and Finland Futures Research Academy in Tampere, Finland. The conference will be held from May 28th to May 29th in 2009 in the University of Tampere.
The Future of the Consumer Society conference will cover two subjects: consumption and futures research methods. Consumption is becoming a key issue in the debate on creating a sustainable future. In particular, the world-wide spread of extremely resource-intensive lifestyles and economic practices has become one of the most important challenges we face.
Futures studies is ideally placed to help face this challenge as it includes tools for describing possible, probable, and desirable variations of the present that are both social and “natural”. Furthermore, by examining a variety of possibilities we can come closer to choosing and shaping the future, rather than merely predicting it.
The conference will bring together the best futures studies experts in the scientific community to interact with corporate representatives and policymakers. The goal of the conference is to assist decision-makers by providing them with the tools to gain a better understanding of the potential consequences of present and future decisions.
The conference website will contain the most up-to-date information regarding the FFRC 2009 conference. Please see: http://www.futuresconference.fi/2009 The deadline for submitting abstracts is 1 February, 2009. The call of papers is available from http://www.futuresconference.fi/2009/2nd_Call_2009_web.pdf If you have any questions, please contact us at conference2009@tse.fi
We look forward to seeing you in Tampere in May 2009.
Best Wishes, on behalf of the organizing committee,
Professor Markku Wilenius, Conference Chair
