Practice in applied ecology

It is the faculty’s objective to be actively involved in research programs addressing the applicability of ecological science, and to increase internationalisation through student exchange programs, increased and improved level of courses taught in English and cooperative research programs with international institutions. The present study thus represents the main strategy of the faculty. Furthermore, the faculty focuses its research on questions related to applied ecology.

The students’ will be given practical exercises in research and/or forestry and participate on ongoing research programs, and/or ongoing forestry management.

The study aims in particular at introducing students to current issues and scientific methods in forestry- and wildlife management.

We target bachelor students from around the world that need a practical stay as part of their bachelor degree within forestry and / or wildlife management.

The study requires a stay of at least 3-months and will give 30 ECTS credits as part of a bachelor degree.

The study will be part of the students’ bachelor degree, and will not give a professional competence by itself. The present study is particularly useful for students that are planning a master degree.

The study is open for entrance at any time of the year, depending on the faculty’s actual capacity to supervise the student, and ongoing research projects. A maximum of 3 students at any time are accepted. Students will be involved in various ways of sampling data in the field, and how to handle this data analytically. Participation in each of the projects will end up with a small report structured as a scientific paper. Students will be given a personal supervisor that will follow up the practice.

The librarian will at the start of the study introduce the students to the library, and to various databases that can supplement the student with scientific information.

This competence will follow throughout the study as the students are themselves supposed to acquire literature for their reports.

Students will be given a high degree of independence, under supervision of a professional in the field. Teaching will consist of self taught literature, practice in the field, and data analyses in the computer.
