Learn about tropical wildlife ecology and management emphasizing economic importance of wildlife, and differences and similarities between the tropical and the non-tropical situation
Ecology of tropical wildlife including population and community ecology and interactions between animals and between animals and their environment. Emphasis is on differences between tropical and non tropical conditions, and on aspects of importance for management and sustainable utilisation. The human-wildlife interface in the tropics, encompassing ecosystem services, traditional- and tourist utilization, conflicts and threats. Management of tropical wildlife including top-down and bottom-up approaches, conservation, international agreements, and the responsibility of science in preserving these resources
Taught in English. Lectures with written exam, student seminars on relevant publications,excursion to Tanzania, writing and presenting essay on relevant topic
Written exam on course (50%), essay on chosen topic (50%).
Grading according to ECTS-system on scale A – E for passed, and F for failed
