6SU190 Practice in applied ecology
The students should acquire an understanding to various methods of wildlife and/or forest research.
The student will take part in forest management, in the fieldwork of research programs, or/and in other work connected to forestry and wildlife research, such as, database management, data analysis, literature search and similar. This can be in the form of silviculture, forest monitoring, radio-telemetry, GPS-technology, ground-tracking on snow, population monitoring, population estimates, and biodiversity assessment. The study will improve the students’ skills in Excel, ArcView, and introduce the student to the organisation of field work. The content will vary depending on ongoing projects.
Taught in English. The student will take part in various projects within forestry and wildlife research. For each project the student will be assigned a supervisor that follows the student from the planning, through the practice and to a final written report.
Written report. Graded as passed or failed.
